Fowl adenovirus Group I as a causal agent of inclusion body hepatitis/ hydropericardium syndrome (IBH/HPS) outbreak in brazilian broiler flocks. Pesquisa Veterinária Brasileira 34(8):733-737. Departamento de Patologia, Faculdade de Medicina Veterinária e Zootecnia, Universidade de São Paulo, Av. Prof. Dr. Orlando Marques de Paiva 87, São Paulo, SP 05508-270, Brazil. E-mail: [email protected] Commercial broiler flocks from a farm located in the State of São Paulo, Brazil, presented diarrhea, depression, increased mortality and poor weight gain. Upon post-mortem examination, classical signs of Inclusion Body Hepatitis/Hydropericardium Syndrome (IBH/HPS) were observed, including enlarged pale yellow-colored livers and straw-colored liquid in the pericardial sac. In addition, gross lesions were also observed in the kidneys, pancreas, thymus, intestines and gallbladder. Samples of these organs were analyzed by PCR for the detection of the hexon gene of the Fowl Adenovirus (FAdVs) Group I. The results were positive for both flocks (A and B) assayed by PCR. The macroscopic lesions associated with the detection of FAdV Group I by PCR in several of these affected organs allowed for the identification of IBH/HPS. In fact, this is the first report in Brazil of IBH/HPS in broilers, which identifies FAdVs group I as a causal agent of the disease. These findings may contribute to the worldwide epidemiology of the adenovirus-mediated hepatitis/ hydropericardium syndrome.

Molecular identification of aviadenoviruses in broiler chickens suspected to inclusion body hepatitis in Golestan province, Iran
Background: Fowl adenoviruses (FAdVs) are distributed widely throughout the world, and domestic avian species of all ages are susceptible. Fowl aviadenoviruses (FAdVs) can be separated into 5 different species (A-E) with various genotypes and 12 serotypes. Some geno- or serotypes induce hepatitis-hydropericardium syndrome (HPS), inclusion body hepatitis (IBH), and adenoviral gizzard erosion (AG...
متن کاملMolecular Identification of Fowl Adenovirus Associated with Inclusion Body Hepatitis in Iran
Background and Aims: Inclusion body hepatitis (IBH) is one of the most important reemerging diseases in many countries with intensive poultry industries. In Iran, the etiological agent of IBH (fowl adenovirus) has not been yet confirmed. The aim of this study was the molecular detection and identification of fowl adenovirus involving IBH in chicken flocks in Iran. Materials and Methods: Polymer...
متن کاملCorrection: Pathogenicity and Complete Genome Characterization of Fowl Adenoviruses Isolated from Chickens Associated with Inclusion Body Hepatitis and Hydropericardium Syndrome in China
In this study, we determined and genetically characterized three fowl adenoviruses isolated from chickens with inclusion body hepatitis (IBH) and hydropericardium syndrome (HPS) in China and assessed their pathogenicity. The full genome of HBQ12, BJH13 and JSJ13 was found to be 44,081, 43,966 and 43,756 nucleotides long, respectively. Sequence alignment and phylogenetic analysis revealed that s...
متن کاملAdenovirus-like inclusion body hepatitis in a flock of broiler chickens in Kermanshah province, Iran
Inclusion body hepatitis (IBH) has been reported in many countries in the world. The IBH or similar cases characterized by hepatitis and presence of intra-nuclear inclusion bodies in hepatocytes have not been reported in broiler chickens in Iran. This is the first report on outbreak of adenovirus-like inclusion body hepatitis in Iran. On October 2012, an onset of high acute mortality in a flock...
متن کاملIsolation, identification and molecular characterization of Inclusion body hepatitis virus
Inclusion body hepatitis caused by avian adenovirus with highly pathogenic strain lead to heavy mortality and unusual lesion like hydropericardium in commercial broilers. Samples were collected from an outbreak in 12000 broiler flock from Andhra Pradesh with sudden high mortality initiated from 32 days of age. Liver was enlarged and showed petechae. Hydropericardium was extensive. 10% liver sus...
